The Cockatiel
The cockatiel is a member of the cockatoo family native to Australia. They have a lifespan of around 20 years.
They are a family favourite and very talented whistlers. They can mimic a variety of songs as well.
Their crest can tell you about their mood: if it is flattened close to their head, they may feel defensive, stressed, or angry, if it is held up straight, they may be attentive, curious or startled, and if it is slightly held back, this means the bird is relaxed and happy, especially if their cheek feathers are fluffed up too and if they grind their beak softly.
They have more dander than the average parrot because of their natural habitat, and it minimizes oil accumulation and helps them stay clean.
